The Superbet Foundation played a crucial role in the development of Romanian chess in 2022, culminating in a significant partnership with the CSU ASE Bucharest chess sports club. The merger resulted in the renaming of the chess team to CSU ASE Superbet, which went on to achieve remarkable results both nationally and internationally.

Making their debut in the Romanian Superleague, CSU ASE Superbet made history as the first chess team to become Superleague champions in their first season. The men’s team, consisting of Berkes Ferenc, Lupulescu Constantin, Jianu Vlad-Cristian, Pârligras Mircea-Emilian, David Gavrilescu, and Mihnea Costachi, and the women’s team, composed of Irina Bulmaga, Cosma Elena Luminiţa, Alessia Ciolacu, Atalik Ekaterina, and Rapport Jovana, won the Romanian Chess Superleague, the most prestigious national chess competition.

Internationally, CSU ASE Superbet was the sole representative of Romania in the Club Cup, the most important international competition for chess clubs. The team also achieved a remarkable 6th place ranking in the OPEN, with a composition of top players in world chess, such as Viswanathan “Vishy” Anand, Richard Rapport, Bogdan-Daniel Deac, D. Gukesh, Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu, Gabriel Sargissian, Constanin Lupulescu, and David Gavrilescu. The team defeated renowned international chess teams and created a significant impact.

The women’s team of CSU ASE Superbet was the biggest surprise, taking home the silver medal in the most important European chess competition. Comprised of Irina Bulmaga, Dinara Saduakassova, Ekaterina Atalik, Marsel Efroimski, and Jovana Rapport, the team ranked second on the podium, one point ahead of the Austrian champion, ASVOe Pamhagen.

In the National Team Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship, held in December 2022, CSU ASE Superbet emerged victorious in the OPEN and female categories. The men’s team, composed of Constantin Lupulescu, Vlad Jianu, David Gavrilescu, and Mircea Pârligras, secured the first position in the ranking after a series of seven wins and one draw. The women’s team, consisting of Irina Bulmaga, Alessia Ciolacu, and Luminița Cosma, went undefeated and won the first place after a remarkable streak of six victories.

In less than a year, CSU ASE Superbet added three important medals to its record for Romanian chess, and its future looks promising. The foundation continues to support the team’s performance at the highest level.
